      Why I'm closing my workshop

My name is Mari. I have been making sandals by hand for 52 years. I started when I was just fifteen years old. An old craftsman in my town taught me everything. How to pick the right leather. How to cut it clean. How to stitch a sole that lasts.

When I got older I opened my own small workshop. Just me, my bench, and my tools. No machines. No factory. Every single pair that left my room went through my hands first. I cut the leather myself. I stitched every sole myself. I checked every detail before it went in the box.

For 52 years that was my life. Wake up. Walk to the bench. Make sandals. I loved every minute of it. The smell of fresh leather in the morning. The sound of the needle going through. The feeling when a pair comes out just right.

But my hands are tired now. They still know the work. They always will. But they shake a little more than they used to. They hurt at the end of the day more than they used to. It is time to rest them.

My daughter Grace and I talked about it for a long time. She grew up in this workshop. She used to sit under my bench and play while I worked. Now she runs this website for me. She takes care of every order, every question, every return. If you need anything, she is the one who will help you.

We both agreed. It is better to stop while the work is still good than to keep going when it is not.

So this is it. Everything left in my shop is now at my cost price. That means you pay what I paid to make them. This is not a sale. This is not a trick. These are simply the last pairs I will ever make.

I would rather they find good feet than sit on my shelf after I lock the door for the last time.

Thank you to everyone who has worn my sandals over the years. When I see someone walking in a pair I made, it still makes me smile. It has meant more than you will ever know.
